Ijen Crater (blue flammed) of Mount Ijen

The Ijen crater is magnificent view with greenish-blue color of sulfur-lake. The crater lies at 2148 meter above sea level, and it is surrounding by volcano’s sheer crater wall.
Ijen’s last major eruption was in 1936, although a minor ash eruption occurred in 1952. In the one corner of the sulfur-lake, the smoke billows out from the volcano vent and the lake’s will bubbles when activity increase, the vent is a source of the sulfur where the collectors pick up sulfur here, they made the track become wider for their traffic with heavy burdens on their shoulder, the sulfur collectors hike up in the early morning and return 13:00 afternoon when the cloud rolling. When you reach the top of ijen crater, you will find a steep gravely path leads down to hot liquid sulfur deposits and steaming sulfur lake. To walk down the lake it takes about 20 minutes, the track is very slippery in some parts and the sulfur smelling gas when downwards the bottom is overwhelming. If you walk up back to crater rim, go on turn left for climb to crater’s highest point at 2368 meter and see magnificent views or keep walking to another side for more expansive view.
